TX Lic # AC00208
MD in China 41 years

NCCAOM Certified

Heidi Lihe Xu is licensed as an acupuncturist with the State of Texas (TX Lic. # AC00208) and is designated a Diplomat in Acupuncture by the NCCAOM (National Council for the Certification of Acupuncturists and Oriental Medicine).  In 1960 Heidi Lihe Xu graduated with a medical degree (MD) from Beijing Institute of Medicine in China.

Prior to her arrival in America in 1988 Heidi Lihe Xu practiced as a MD in ShenYang and Tinjing, China.  It is the knowledge of both Western and Eastern medicine that lends her a diversified background; however, it is her ability to bring together both medical realms in her treatment strategies that stimulates the patient’s own healing processes.  Moreover, Heidi emphasizes that despite her knowledge and experience the unequivocal healing of her patients is through God; she is only His willing instrument.

A Traditional Chinese Diagnosis
(what to expect on the first visit)

An initial visit with Heidi Lihe Xu begins with a case history that is promptly followed by a detailed discussion thereby establishing what is called a "pattern of disharmony".   In Chinese medicine, a diagnosis is not only determined by one’s symptoms and vital signs, but also includes four diagnostic methods that have found extinction in western medical practices:

LOOKING
The practitioner takes all aspects of the physical appearance, emotional state, and tongue color into account.

SMELL & HEARING
Odors of the body and mouth are noted as well as the  sounds generated from the chest and nose.

TOUCHING
An integral part of traditional Chinese medicine’s diagnosis is the pulse taken at three points on each wrist.

QUESTIONING
The artful detection of the pulse points is necessary in order to determine which organ systems are contributing to the condition of the patient.

The information revealed by each of these diagnostic areas is then synthesized into a comprehensive picture that enables the practitioner to discern which channels and organ systems are in disharmony.

Once Heidi has formulated her diagnosis and has a treatment strategy in mind she explains the nature of the problem and the subsequent treatment course with the patient.  Depending upon the nature of the disharmony Heidi will implement all or part of the following treatment strategies: acupuncture, electro-acupuncture (needle-free), heat lamp, biologically safe laser, Tui Na (Chinese body work), auricular acupuncture, and Chinese herbal therapy.

Treatment Strategies

The type of the condition dictates which treatment strategy is implemented.   Heidi is on the cutting edge of technology in the area of Chinese medicinal instrumentation.  She provides acupuncture, electroacupuncture, auricular acupuncture, biologically safe laser, and electromagnetic heat lamp depending upon the condition.  In the presence of pain Heidi may also perform Tui Na (Chinese body work).  And if the condition is chronic she may suggest Chinese herbalism in conjunction with other treatments.  Here is a brief look at  the treatment strategies that have been used in China for over 3000 years.

Acupuncture
In Chinese medicine our body’s consist of 14 main channels. It is when a channel is blocked that symptoms appear, and over time the blockage results in chronic illness. Acupuncture is the treatment by which small needles are inserted along the affected channel; the insertion at the acupoints stimulates the channel and opens the blockage thereby healing the body.

Electroacupuncture Electroacupuncture is a needle-free and pain-free alternative to traditional acupuncture, as well as, a treatment strategy that can be used in tandem with traditional acupuncture to provide an even stronger stimulation of the acupoints. Electroacupuncture utilizes electrical stimulation of the points instead of needles therefore it is a completely painless treatment strategy.  It is predominately used to treat pain conditions in order to stimulate the channels that are blocked by the pain. The patient controls the intensity of the stimulation therefore there is no associated pain; rather the patient feels a little "buzzing" sensation at the acupuncture points.

Low Level Laser Therapy
This biologically safe laser is a special "visible" red laser that is used to provide painless treatment of sinuses and other areas of the face.  Biochemical models have been studied and indicate that the Low Level Laser Therapy functions to regenerate tissue, decrease inflammation, and provide pain relief by increasing metabolism, circulation, and collagen synthesis. The use of this high tech visible laser truly sets Heidi apart from other acupuncturists and affords her patients with the most effective treatments.  The laser also provides highly successful treatment of alcohol and smoking addictions when combined with ear acupuncture.

Auricular (Ear) Acupuncture
In Chinese medicine the entire body is relected as acupoints on the ear; therefore, the stimulation of an ear acupoint by a needle, laser, or seed yields a positive healing effect on the body. Auricular (ear) acupuncture is commonly implemented for treatment of addictions: alcohol, drug, and smoking.

Tui Na (Chinese Body Work)
Tui Na is a Chinese body work that involves a therapeutic manipulation of the body as deemed necessary for the relief of pain in conjunction with acupuncture or laser therapies.

Electromagnetic Heat Lamp
The electromagnetic heat lamp can be likened to a soothing "heating pad", but it possesses far more healing properties.  While the patient is relaxing the heat lamp’s heat activates the delivery of over 33 essential healing elements that are essential to the patient's body.  The absorption of these healing elements promotes metabolism, regulates physiological deficiencies, diminishes inflammation, enhances immunity, and eases pain. The electromagnetic heat lamp is commonly implemented in the treatment of muscular pain, soft tissue injury, arthritis, and skin conditions.

Chinese Herbalism
Any disharmony that is chronic, present for a long time, not only requires any of the above strategies but also herbal therapy.  Based upon one's diagnosis and imbalances, Heidi specifically prescribes and makes an herbal decoction for the patient.  While the acupuncture provides immediate results in a chronic condition, the herbal therapy produces healing on the inner organ level thereby providing long term relief.
